@Friendica Support I would like to pull some content from Ukraine to my Friendica instance and found the following relay that has all hte relevent Ukrainien Mastodon instances: relay.social.net.ua/ However, `console relay add relay.social.net.ua/actor` gives me a `couldn't be added`. The reason might be that this is not a yukicmochi relay but based on some other code. Would you be so kind to have a look whether this can be fixed on my end or on theirs and how?
@Michael 🇺🇦 Thanks, and yes, they replied to me and explained that they have a good reason for only accepting relay connnections from exclusively Ukrainian-speaking instances. Now I am multilingual and will have other multilinguals on my instance. What we would need to have is a way to configure Friendica to transmit only content in specific languages to specific relays. As far as I understand all content is tagged by Friendica automatically according to the used language (in the same way Mastodon users manually select the used language), so it should not be too hard to make the relay agent select specific languages for export? If I can guarantee this, said relay would let me in.

Ich selber kann den Kontakt, nur wenn von Hand aus der Datenbank löschen und ich möchte die Eingriffe in die Datenbank, wenn möglich vermeiden, da ich nicht genau weiß wie die einzelnen Einträge zusammen hängen.

A question about the different page option settings of accounts (friendica 2024.03). /settings/account/basic
Right now this page want's to merge from a standard personal profile page to kinda community profile page where only specific defined profiles can publish thru it's wall to the rest of the followers.
First thought was to stay as a single profile page, allow mutual friend relations to publish/write to this wall, and change all contacts that do not belong to the inner circle of profiles to followers only. Apparently this setting doesn't work, or doesn't work as expected. Security and privacy settings in: /settings
Is this a known issue or some kind of misinterpretation of this option?
Next possible option would be to choose to become a public community group page.
This option would imply a continuous attention to change every new contact to followers only, if in fact this would mean that the followers would not be able to publish to the group but receive publications. Also this setting would include the risk of being exposed to unexpected posts into the community of followers whenever the administration of the profile lags behind for some reason.
The option private group looks more promising in this regard and actually would be the same than being a personal profile page that checks new follow requests and than could change the setting to allow mutual friendship to post to the profiles wall or simply define a follower relationship. The [Experimental] notice, that actually exists like lot's of years already is a little bit confusing, or creates a certain reluctance to try this option. How experimental is this still as of now or could we perhaps ask the community to run a general test on all the options of the account settings in general together with a general feed back to sum this up and come to some definite setup, wording and explanations on the matter?
Having a strange behavior of one profile with respect to the domain.com/network page. For some reason it just gives a blank page. Same goes for: /network?mention=1 /network?order=created /network?order=commented but not for: /network?star=1
At the same time it does "feel" that this goes away sometimes, but this "feeling" will need some recheck.
As of now other related profiles that haven't posted anything or any interaction at all do display the network page without content as they do not have any contacts.
A first guess was that this is due to the startpage addon but changing the setting their from "network" to a different page didn't solve the problem.
This is happening on a "brand new" 2024.12 setup, hosted alongside a 2024.03 with the exact same admin settings that as of now hasn't any of these problems.
Blank pages should have a related Fatal Error in the PHP log.

How is this to understand @Hypolite Petovan. Reading your link and follow ups I don't get much. Is there a way tu pull only this fix from github or is it necessary to go "full dev branch"? And why does this happen only on one profile, is there a way to create some situation that what ever is empty isn't anymore empty. Like posting something, or commenting on some mastodon post or something like that? Also, is this 2024.12 specific?

Trying to transfer an instance from on (shared hosting) server to a debian/ubuntu VPS that's building up. The problem now is that the DB is around 3.7 gig so I tried to pull the file with wget.
The server responds with: rootName@VPShosting:/var/storage# wget https://domain.com/folder/DB.sql.bz2 .. Connecting to domain.com (domain.com)|xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx|:443... connected. HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 413 Request Entity Too Large ERROR 413: Request Entity Too Large

To make sure that the settings that rule are the ones I changed, I searched for a comand line command to print the respective values within the console: php -r "echo ini_get('my_value');" (the print is a littel bit strange tho, just a number in line before the user handle, like: 8000MrootName@VPShosting:~# )
Just managed to pull two files of 1.9gig and 1.6gig with the existing setting and the command as displayed, so the limitiation is above 1.9gig and most likely a wget problem itself (?).

Not really. I do have ftp access to the shared hoster using fileZilla not SSH, so I can use those credentials and SSH with putty over console on the VPS. I was just starting to look into such an option but not sure for the correct command to do so. I'd probably also need to install some ftp package I guess. It's a ubuntu 2022.04 standard setup VPS.
Read that a lot, but I guess that my access to the shared hosting only with a tool like filezilla isn't enough to use resync.
Also, I'm in the middle of nowhere with internet access thru a cellphone located at a specific 20x10cm spot in the roof where I catch a littel bit of the provider antena that's at a distance of like 12km. So downloading 3.7gig to than upload it with scp is kinda impossible.
You said you have ssh access. That should be enough for god's own rsync And: rsync can resume (-P option), so you would not have to start over after an interrupted transfer.
As for what I saw, on a brief look in conversations on the matter on the web, was that rsync has to be installed on both sides, on both servers. I ony can install it on the VPS, not on the shared hosting where the files is.
It is not possible to use rsync on http URLs. To use the rsync algorithm the client-side rsync needs to interact with a server-side rsync process. This is done either directly, through ssh or (less common) rsh. HTTP is not an option. stackoverflow.com/questions/33…

Right now I most likely will try to get that instance running and up to date on the shared hosting, than try to split up the file storage and than move it in parts. Another option might be looking for a day with a good cellphone reception and do all of it with scp from over here. Also, investigating how to do this with sFTP over SSH from the VPS is most likely an appropriate option that add's experience and tools to the general setup, as the wget investigation is kinda "ausgereizt" already.
Last but not least there could be the option to ask anyone else who does have (good fiber optics) connections to get the file onto his VPS and than create a resync setup. 👍
I am confused. If you do not have ssh access, sftp will fail.
two server
server 1 shared hosting hosts the file access over sftp no access over SSH access over https, locating the file in a public folder, access with wget, works at least up to 1.9gig
server2 VPS hosting access over SSH never intended or tested to access over sFTP till now needs/requests the 3.7gig file

Parallel schau ich mir hier die Error log über sudo tail -f /var/log/apache2/error.log an. Da kommt aber nichts. Eigentlich sollte ich sehen, wenn da etwas am Server passiert.

The instance was installed with the help of Yunohost on an old laptop with 4GB RAM, 500GB hard disk and according to htop, it almost never exceeds 500MB RAM overall load
I have disabled infinite scroll and I have lowered just to 5 messages per page the timeline
What else can I do?

@ɯɟʇɹ @Friendica Support Friendica really likes as much innodb_buffer_pool_size as you can give it (assuming you use innodb in MariaDB). It looks like from your RAM usage you can increase that to ~2 GB and see how that helps.

Hi there, working on moving old friendica sites from a shared hosting to a VPS, I ran into the following problem I can't find a solution for. This actually happens with one 2021.04 instance but not with another (anymore), so I'm crosschecking all the settings but can't find how to solve this. Both sites were installed as 2012.04 from the start:

Even more astonishing, sending the following setting with the console: /bin/console config system url https://sub.domain.com .. the site is displayed and works as it should be for a few minutes, and than falls back into the wrong behavior, like if the worker changes something when ever the cron kicks in. In that time span I can log in and even go thru the admin settings but this setting is not available.

On a first glimps, I haven't found any mention of the path terms. In any case I will wonder about the meaning of: "the meaning of the relevant config keys". Like to say, if I can find "relevant config keys" ..
@utopiArte Sorry, I was on mobile and couldn’t check but these keys should have been mentioned in this file, along their purpose.
system.basepath is the absolute file path where Friendica is installed, e.g. /var/www/subdomaincom in your case.
system.urlpath should only be used if Friendica is installed in a subfolder of the domain you’re using, and is relative to that domain. It doesn't seem to be relevant to you, so it should be blank.
system.url is the absolute URL where your Friendica node is accessible. It should consist in the protocol, the domain and the urlpath together. In your case it should be https://sub.domain.com/
system.php_path should be the absolue path to the PHP CLI executable. It should not point to PHP-FPM, which is used to process web requests.
Changed this setting in the local.config.php to phpX.y. The sites are working like before.
I decided to copy/paste identically local.config.php of the site that does work to the one that doesn't, only changing the specific detail of DB and folder structure, and also made sure that the .conf files are alike. Still having the same problem.
Compared the print of: /var/www/subdomaincom/bin/console config in the few minutes it is working correctly after sending: /var/www/subdomaincom/bin/console config system url https://sub.domain.com and when it doesn't work but the prints are identically.
The print right now for both sites show the following quite at the bottom of the print:
The only difference between the two sites in the print is the following line quite at the top: config.system.basepath => / This line doesn't exist in the site that is working and I can't find a way to skip it or delete the /. Meld (the diff program) shows a dot in front of the the slash ./, the simple text editor Kate doesn't.
Meld actually also shows the [enter] signs in the same way, a little bit less colored, in lines that have them, like it shows the dot. 🤷♂️

What do you mean by "works for a few minutes"? How many pages correctly show in the mean time? What happens when the few minutes have elapsed?
The site works correctly for several minutes. I can log in. All pages show correctly, including admin pages. Once it falls back to redirecting to: sub.domain.com/var/www/subdomain/ .. I have to execute again: /var/www/subdomaincom/bin/console config system url https://sub.domain.com .. the console prints (as always): system.url <= https://inversion.tupambae.com and I can use the site again for several minutes before it falls back to the wrong behavior.
After a break I started to check out everything again and did several tests. I changed the order of the lines in local.config.php and managed to get the exact same lines and order in the bin/console prints of both sites. The problem stayed. Than I checked example_local.config.php to compare and found that actually any of the lines figure there, so I deleted them all together. Right now local.config.php looks like this:
The site still behaves the same way. At first it loads correctly, and quite fast, after some minutes it starts taking lot's of time and ends up like in the screen of the initial post.
Now the bin/console config print shows only the following two specific lines related to the whole path issue, all the other references mentioned above are gone. I have no idea how to delete the remaining references. Those lines have to figure somewhere in the DB I guess, but again, no idea what lines to execute to display them or delete them: config.system.basepath => / system.basepath => /var/www/subdomain
@utopiArte Once you set a config value using the console, changing the value in the config file won't help as the console stores the value in the DB and it has precedence over the files.
No matter how you did it, the important part is that system.basepath must be set to the install folder, and system.url must be set to the full URL. You can verify what the current value used by Friendica for either config keys is using the console.
I've browsed https://inversion.tupambae.com and when the style is missing, the first line shows inversion.tupambae.com/var/www/inversioncom even though it should show https://inversion.tupambae.com. This is governed by the system.url config key.
To me it "feels" that /var/www/subdomaincom is added by some mecanism to sub.domain.com. In particular because when setting specifically with the console command /var/www/subdomaincom/bin/console config system url -> https://sub.domain.com it works for some minutes.
As last intent I tried to use the following commands to reset the two mentioned settings but the behaviour ist still the same: /var/www/subdomaincom/bin/console config system url https://sub.domaincom /var/www/subdomaincom/bin/console config system basepath /var/www/subdomaincom/
No I can't. There is no change at all in the results of the bin/console config output (print). Actually even the settings send and "officially" accepted by the system do not show up in the print.
Latest thing I tried, totally feed up, was to send the commands several times and also making sure they end with a slash.

@utopiArte Oh I forgot this was such an old version. There still is an issue with the pictures because /var/www/subdomain/ gets prepended in the URL. Do you mind running bin/console config system and send the output to hypolite@mrpetovan.com ?
@utopiArte There's no file named boot.php at the root of the Friendica install, not sure where it's coming from.
The CURLE_OPERATION_TIMEOUTED constant is defined by the PHP curl extension, please verify it is enabled in the CLI version of php with php -i | grep curl.
For what it's worth, I found friendica to be unfriendly to non-root URLs, that is to say URLs that aren't at /, so I setup a subdomain specifically for friendica, friendica.eskimo.com/. You may wish to give that a try. The machine domain does not need to be this, you can do it by configuring DNS to point to the base IP of the machine and then configuring a subdomain in Apache or Nginx as a virtual host.
Also, this is a btop from an 18 core machine with 256GB of RAM with the major load being friendica, a secondary load is hubzilla, mastodon, and miskey, but friendica represents more load than the latter three combined, but it also gets more traffic than the latter three combined. But what I am getting at here, you may want to consider dedicating a physical server. I'll grant you it's busier than usual as we've just returned the server to service after three months of downtime, 7 motherbords, three power supplies, and two CPU's later.

I have huge problems with the worker queue, it periodically gets stuck for a very long time, processing nothing for hours or (more often) days (so far the maximum was 11 days) when it just grows a processes nothing. This means that my friends can't send each other private messages, public posts don't federate and any sort of permission-restricted posts get stuck on "pending" for days.
I tried running the worker.php with crontab very 5 minutes in addition to the friendica deamon, but it does not seem to help.
@FifiSch You can scale the worker in admin->page->Worker/Performance settings. You should run the worker manually and see if it throws an error? If this is the case depending on the error message you may enable extensions or increase the memory limit... or find an error in an addon...!??

@Gerhard Hallstein aktivier mal im Profil der Feeds unter "Kanal Einstellungen" --- "Ausschließlich Kanäle" dann sollten die Beiträge der Feeds nur noch in Kanälen und Circles erscheinen. Vielleicht löst das dein Problem.

The combination of two audio files might be problematic in general. Actually it's not possible over here to upload more than one video or audio and the replay of any of the two files displayed with timer might not work.
#Friendica people! I think #Bookface is getting close to another release. So let me know if there is anything you've noticed that should be tweaked or fixed for the next major version. If I can, of course. Bookface is just CSS and I can only style what's already there in the "Frio" theme.
I'm guessing what you mean by "can't navigate to the next page" is that it moves up to cover the pagination button at the bottom of the feed? A screenshot would help me figure out what's going on. The bars are "fixed" positioned, they shouldn't move (well, except to slide off screen in landscape mobile view).
I can't do anything about it in stock "Frio" but this will be fixed in the next release of the "Bookface" scheme. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.
Yes, I'd noticed that both on mobile and with deeply indented comments, especially if people add stuff to the status line like what app they are posting from or longitude and latitude or it adds that (received) info.
The next release of Bookface will have a right margin to make sure the status text never overlaps the network icon/button.
I have a few general optimization suggestions: - Convert CSS to LESS (.scss) - Compile .css and min.css (minified) files - Use min.css files by default, with an option in the theme settings to switch to the non-minified CSS file
This would significantly reduce the CSS file size and simplify writing CSS.
I'm not convinced adding a CSS pre-processor will really help. A bunch of the stylesheets are already modularized and PHP processes variables and concatenates those files on the server side already. That might be why none of the stylesheets I've looked at in Friendica are minified, like maybe it messes up parsing them or something? I'll have to test it on my dev server.
I'm not a fan of CSS pre-processors though. After nearly 30 years of doing web design+dev I don't like to introduce dependencies if I don't need to because I've seen a lot of these things come and go. Next week someone will tell me to rewrite it in PostCSS. 🤷 The only reason I can think to use them now is to support advanced CSS features for old browsers nobody should probably be using anymore. Because modularization, nesting rules, pseudo-selectors, variables, computation, reassigning values at runtime, and color transforms are now all built into vanilla CSS for modern browsers. Bookface is already making use of most of those features, and the PHP pre-processing is taking care of the rest.
So minifying and/or compressing is probably the best bet for optimizing it, but the real solution is probably a major rewrite or replacement of the underlying "Frio" theme itself, which is very, very code-heavy (thanks to legacy code reflecting its age). But that...will be a major undertaking because that theme as a lot of "moving parts."

@3of14 Wenn ich mir dein Profil ansehe, dann sehe ich keine URL, gegen die geprüft werden kann.
Das Ergebnis der URL Prüfung wird lokal gespeichert, ist aber nicht Teil des Protokolls (zumindest nach meinen Wissensstand). Die jeweiligen Mastodon Instanzen prüfen ebenfalls autonom und speichern das Ergebnis lokal.
Ich schicke auch mal Screenshots, anscheinend kann ich es nicht so gut erklären. Für mich sieht es so aus, als wenn friendica.me die Adresse der Homepage gar nicht an andere Server weitergebe würde.
Ich habe jetzt mal die Homepage-Adresse aus dem Profil von freifunkh raus genommen. Heute Abend packe ich die wieder rein. Vielleicht triggert das irgendwas.

@3of14 Das rel="me Sniped muss auf der Homepage hinterlegt sein, die geprüft werden soll. In deinem Profil muss die URL im Feld: Homepage hinterlegt werden. Erst wenn diese beiden Bedingungen zutreffen, kann eine Bestätigung geprüft und abschließend durch einen Hacken bestätigt werden.

Ihr könnt es also für euere Instanzen anpassen und nutzen.
Auf einem abstrakten Niveau sind die Anforderungen, die wir beschreiben, auch auf andere Plattformen des Fediverse übertragbar. Dennoch gibt es einige Aspekte, die von der konkreten Plattform und Software-Implementierung abhängen. So sind zum Beispiel die Möglichkeiten, rechtliche Texte einzubinden und anzuzeigen, unterschiedlich.
Die Stiftung Datenschutz wurde im Januar 2013 von der Bundesrepublik Deutschland als Stiftung privaten Rechts gegründet. Sie ist gemeinnützig und verfolgt keine gewerblichen Interessen.

I moved the #Friendica Wiki to another server. I need some people to test it and see if all works. I will then solve the problems pointed out.
The initial setup was not done by me. It was still on a server with php 7.4 because it did not work with 8.x due to some plugins. I removed those plugins, apparently not maintained since 2014.
I also saw that it loads some js from some CDN, I don't like that either, so tips welcome on that. Maybe there is a plugin that stores such stuff locally?
Also can you suggest a free service to analyze your webpage, show problem, broken links and such?
I saw that the Avatar (only a systemwide standard avatar for all users) is not displayed in my Firefox, but looks fine on Chromium. May be a DNS issue, so local issue only, seems tailscale some how messes up my DNS resolution. But please have a look for any embedded stuff that does not load!

I use this for a local website and think it is also possible for a live website. I think there was also some option to adjust how many 'clicks' will be done per second.. or so

@utzer [Pleroma] I usually use chromium.. Now I tried also with a (quite) fresh firefox, I think without addons.. shows the same problems.. Network console shows: "NS_ERROR_CORRUPTED_CONTENT" for bootstrap and some other files..

@gmc I am constantly working on it, it was 404 for some minutes, right now it should work and also what you describe should be fixed right now. But I will adjust some nginx conf further.

I've just realised something, which I assume is down to imperfect federation between Friendica and Mastodon: When I reply to someone on Mastodon, it automatically includes a mention of them @name.whatever - but I don't see that mention. If it's a nested comment, multiple mentions might be included. I only realised this when someone asked to stop mentioning them in a thread, and didn't realise I had.
Is this intentional? Is there a way to not mention someone in a comment on their post (or a reply to a comment)? Thanks.
@Noam writes I think "Settings" > "Additional features" > "Post composition" > "Explicit mentions" controls whether these mentions are hidden or not; if they are explicitly placed in the compose box, you can remove them. That's my understanding anyway.

Anyway during the last weeks i noticed lots of reports related to high load and database-problems. From time to time i had to call dica.interfel.de twice to get an answer. These days libranet.de always needs two or three calls to get any result.

@Anomaly if you have console/terminal access, run cd your-friendica-directory bin/console.php worker it runs your cron jobs, and gets your workers to complete jobs in the queue, it may help

@Anomaly then if you open terminal on your server, and cd to your friendica dir, bin/worker.php it should run the worker, and one other thing you can try, is go to myphpadmin open your database for friendica, and in the sql tab enter DELETE FROM `workerqueue` WHERE `done` = 1; which will clear all jobs completed, the task may be completed, but not cleared out of the database table. other than that maybe @hypolite can help maybe better
@Anomaly also try, Admin/Site/Worker Maximum load average=50, Maximum number of parallel workers=20, Maximum load for workers=150, Worker defer limit=15, Worker fetch limit=25, it may help as well as double check your Database Lock Wait Timeouts, check the Friendica log files for any error messages related to lock wait timeouts, sorry I cant offer more, im a little limited on my knowledge, just sharing everything I know, because I have dealt with some of these issues, y
@Anomaly Deferred tasks aren't currently running. They failed during they initial run, which placed them in this wait list with a next try date in the future. From your screenshot it appears that the task creation date and the next try date are pretty close to each other, so it must only have failed a few times at most.
Running either the worker or the daemon manually will not clear deferred tasks which next try date have not been reached yet. There's an incremental back off system that increases the delay before the next try after each new failure. Once the task succeeds, the task will clear from the deferred list.
@Hypolite Petovan yes I thought this, but why has this entry been in the list for 2 months? All entries are successfully completed . I have no problems with friendica, if this entry does not cause problems,can be on the list
